Plein Air painting in Austin, Texas! There's nothing as exciting as finding a group of colors and shapes in nature and emulating with thick layers of paint. I found this cactus on the side of the road near Jan's house. Jan is the most gracious, warm, loving hostess! She's invited me to stay and paint the beautiful scenery here and connected me with several wonderful people.
On the 14+ hour drive to Texas my enthusiasm was ramping up and I couldn't wait to approach and paint a cactus. Living in MO, I've hardly seen this large wild plant besides in tiny pots for desk plants - not comparable.
